- Encloses a table of contents for the proposed book. Requests LP's judgments on the value of the book based upon the table of contents. Wonders if LP has come across Huennekens and Mahler's work anywhere so that LP might give an estimate of their ability to write a worth-while book. [Letter from LP to Freeman June 3, 1955] [Filed under LP Correspondence: (W.H. Freeman and Company, 1941-1959), #439.13]
- Letter from Dr. John T. Edsall, Biological Laboratories, Harvard University, to LP RE: Pleased to hear that LP appreciated Edsall's article on Government and the Freedom of Science. Hopes that the National Academy Committee will produce a good report on this issue, but doubts if the government will accept the report if it is too strong. Interested to hear further details of LP's difficulties with the Public Health Service. Bernard de Voto has been interviewing people involved in these actions by the Public Health Service and plans to write an article on the issue and have it published in Harpers magazine. Wonders if LP might contribute information on his own experience to be included in de Voto's article. [Letter from LP to Edsall May 11, 1955, Letter from LP to Edsall July 21, 1955] [Filed under LP Correspondence: (E: Individual Correspondence. (Eastman - Eide)), #106.5]
- Letter from Dr. John T. Edsall, Biological Laboratories, Harvard University, to LP RE: Sends a separate letter regarding protein chemistry. Barbara Low and Edsall have recently finished the article, "Aspects of Biochemical Research" for a new volume of David Green's Currents in Biochemical Research. Plan to include several figures directly from LP's Solvay Conference paper. Received a letter from Bob Corey on the full details of the molecular models and their prices. Requests one full set. [Letters from LP to Edsall May 11, 1955, July 21, 1955] [Filed under LP Correspondence: (E: Individual Correspondence. (Eastman - Eide)), #106.5]
- Letter from LP to Dr. A.W. Bell, Life Sciences Dept., Los Angeles City College, RE: Has read article on tubular structure of collagen fibers. Size of these fibers dictates that electron micrographs cannot give any information about the configuration of the polypeptide chain in collagen. [Filed under LP Correspondence: (B: Correspondence, 1955-1957), #38.1]
- Letter from LP to Henry Allen Moe, John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, RE: Congratulates Moe on his Honorary Fellowship in Brasenose. Believes Professor Ansejo should be awarded another Fellowship and discusses the new science of medicine. LP updates Moe on the construction progress of the Norman Church Laboratory of Chemical Biology and his worries that he does not have enough funding to furnish the building when complete. [Letters from Moe to LP May 24, 1955, May 31, 1955] [Filed under LP Science: (John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, 1953-1975), Box #14.015, Folder #15.3]
- Letter from LP to Kenneth K. Harms, Field Representative, The American Humanist Association, RE: Regrets that he cannot accept the invitation to speak at the joint meeting of several chapters of The American Humanist Association on June 12,1955. [Letter from Harms to LP May 23, 1955] [Filed under LP Correspondence: (H: Correspondence, 1950-1955), #166.6]
- Letter from Leo A. Shinn, Office of Naval Research, to LP RE: Will proceed with plans to hold the Symposium on Molecular Structure and Biological Specificity in October. Sessions will run from Thursday until noon on Saturday. LP should let Shinn know which of the last three weeks in October would be most convenient. Will rely on LP to decide the program. Lists topics considered by LP and Reynolds. Invitations will be sent out once LP sends a listed of suggested speakers and topics. LP may wish to approach people informally before they extend the official invitations. [Filed under LP Speeches: 1955s.24]
- Letter from Mrs. R. C. Glenn, Assistant Editor, Journal of the Franklin Institute, to LP RE: Sending Huckel's "Theoretical Principles of Organic Chemistry." It would be satisfactory if LP could finish his review by either the July 15 or August 15 printing deadline. There is no limit to the length of review, but the average length is two pages double spaced. On important books, reviews have been four to five pages. [Letters from LP to Glenn May 23, 1955, June 7, 1955] [Filed under LP Correspondence: (F: Correspondence, 1935-1956), #128.20]
- Letter from W.H. Freeman, W.H. Freeman and Company, Publishers, to LP RE: Frank Huennekens of Washington and Henry Mahler of Wisconsin are writing a book on biological oxidations. They are under pressure to sign contracts with other publishing houses.
- Letter from W.H. Freeman, W.H. Freeman and Company, Publishers, to LP RE: Sent LP the manuscript on Chemical Thermodynamics by Frederick T. Wall, which is to be published in LP's series. Another copy has been sent to Dr. MacDougall. When LP has returned his copy, Freeman will ask Dr. Eberhardt to read it, unless LP has another suggestion. The manuscript is only lacking the problems for the latter part of the book and the appendix, which is still being assembled. Requests that LP comment on the book's distinctive characteristics, its scope, any flaws, and his previously-mentioned ideas for departure from traditional line drawings. Hopes that LP and AHP enjoyed their visit to the East and to Puerto Rico. [Letter from Freeman to LP June 14, 1955] [Filed under LP Correspondence: (W.H. Freeman and Company, 1941-1959), #439.13]

Nipankar, a candidate for a Ph.D. in Chemistry. Encloses a copy of the relevant Regulations and Ordinances. Upon acceptance of this invitation, a copy of the thesis will be sent.
