  • Letter from Dr. Noyes D. Smith, Jr., Chairman, API Clay Project Review Committee, Shell Development Company, to LP RE: The American Petroleum Institute supports fundamental research which it believes will ultimately contribute to the petroleum industry. Would like to support work directed toward understanding the mechanisms of transformations that occur during the development of clay-type layer-lattice structure silicates from framework, sheet, and chain type silicates and the synthesis of standard clay minerals. Wonders if LP would personally like to carry out work in this field. Suggests that a member of the Clay Project Review Committee discuss the size and scope of LP's project with him before he writes a proposal to the API. Smith is asking several other institutions about their interest in the work. [Letter from LP to Smith, Jr. August 26, 1955] [Filed under LP Correspondence: (S: Correspondence, 1953-1956), #379.3]
