  • Letter from Dr. M.S. Sundaram, Embassy of India, to LP RE: Received LP's endorsement of Knud Karl Lonberg-Hohn. Doubtful that they can make room for young foreign Ph.Ds in India. The expansion of research and industrial opportunities seem to lag behind the availability of Indian personnel. Suggests that Lonberg-Hohn contact Sundaram after his studies are completed anyhow. • Letter from Dr. W.W. Newschwander, Associate Professor of Chemistry, Central Washington College of Education, and Dr. J. Wesley Crum, Dean of Instruction, Central Washington College of Education, to LP RE: While attending the Institute for College Chemistry Teachers at the University of Minnesota this summer, Newschwander spoke with Dr. Palmquist of the National Science Foundation. Learned that it might be wise to apply for an Institute for High School Chemistry teachers to be held at Central from July 23 - August 17, 1956. Newschwander was impressed when Lloyd Malm described the philosophy of LP's general chemistry course. Has also heard LP speak to the San Francisco Section of the American Chemical Society. Wonders if LP would be willing to lecture at Central on the non-descriptive portions of his general chemistry course. Describes the details of the position. [Letter from LP to Newschwander August 8, 1955] [Filed under LP Correspondence: (N: Correspondence), #287.22]
  • Letter from Professor Paul A. Beck, Mining and Metallurgical Engineering Dept., University of Illinois, to LP RE: Since the ASM will be publishing the Symposium lectures in book form, he believes that it would be unwise for LP's manuscript to be identical to one that he was publishing in Metallurgical Reviews. Requests that LP let him know the title of his talk as soon as possible. [Letter from Jenkins to LP May 11, 1955, Letter from LP to Beck August 11, 1955] [Filed under LP Speeches: 1955s.22]
