Interviewer: Jennifer Lee
Interview Date: July 17, 1979
Location: Goode residence, Corvallis, Oregon
Duration: 1:13:11
Goode’s sixth interview begins with the story of how the academic journal, "Improving College and University Teaching," came to existence. Dr. August Strand, who was Oregon State College’s president at the time, gave the administrative authority for the publication. Goode had gotten the idea for the journal during his time in graduate school because he was greatly interested in the subject of improving college curriculum. Once in the graduate program, Goode discovered that he was simultaneously learning about college teaching as well.
Once he returned to Oregon State after his time at Stanford, Goode began to teach as well as running the journal. Fortunately, the journal had ample material to sustain its run. According to Goode, there was little outward protesting of the publication but towards the end of its run, some did not believe the improvement was needed in the area teaching. Goode also comments on his perspective of teaching and what duties lie in the role of teacher.
