    LINUS PAULING JR. M.D,

    21 October 1963

    Dear Mom and Pop,

Excitement still flows free over Pop's prize, as well it should. I include an editorial from the Honolulu Advertizer, quite positive, I think.

I would like to go to Oslo to watch, as I said over the phone, and possibly bring some of my older kids along from Geneva to see their famous grandpop decorated, if you think it would be alright. I haven't talked about it with Anita yet, but the only difficulty I can foresee is that it maybe during exam week or something like that. What do you think?

Also, what is the time schedule going to be? What about accommodations? What clothes are necessary? I don't own a dark winter suit anymore. I may have to come to California early enough to pick one up.

What is the Center for the Study of Democratic Institutions? That was another surprise, and people are asking me about it. I read coincidentally in the newspaper that Hutchins is President, but I know nothing else.

All goes well here. Many people have been giving congratulations to you via me, and I will never remember all of them. I will pass on the several letters I've gotten, however.

Much love to you both, and I'm looking forward to seeing you soon.

    Linus
