    Dr. George W. Beadle

    President

    University of Chicago

    Chicago, Illinois

    Dear Beadle:

Thanks very much for your letter of congratulation. Ava Helen and I are having a hard time to get anything done - a hard time to believe, in fact, that we are receiving these letters of congratulation.

I write now to ask if you have available a copy of your testimony before the Joint Atomic Energy Commission on 20 August 1965. I would like to use it in connection with the preparation of my Nobel address. Perhaps your secretary could send it on to me, if a copy is available.

With best regards, and thanks, I am

    Sincerely yours,

    Linus Pauling:hpg

    24 October 1963

    Dr. Philip H. Abelson

    Editor, Science

    1515 Massachusetts Avenue, N.W.

    Washington 5, D.C.

    Dear Dr. Abelson:

I felt, and I still feel, that the sentence in the 4 October issue of Science to which I took objection could only be interpreted in a way unfavorable to me. I do not intend, however, to submit a letter about it for publication.

I have been engaged in a difficult struggle against the people who have misrepresented me, and I was sorry to see Science make an unjustified implication about me.

    Sincerely yours,

    Linus Pauling:kpc
