  • Letter from Amy Hiland to Gentlemen, Chemistry Laboratory, Caltech, RE: Has been informed that Caltech prepared a mixture, containing lanolin and other ingredients, which was used by Florence Chadwick as a body covering during her swim across the Catalina Channel. Hiland plans to make the Channel swim herself. Requests the names of the ingredients contained in the solution or where she may obtain the solution already prepared. [Letter from Wulf to Hiland April 19, 1955] [Filed under LP Correspondence: (H: Correspondence, 1950-1955), #166.6]
  • Letter from David Resnick, President, United Inventors and Scientists of America, to LP RE: Informs LP that he would have no time or financial commitment as a member of the United Inventors and Scientists of America's National Board of Directors. Would only want to place LP's name on their stationery for moral support. [Letter from LP to Resnick April 7, 1955] [Filed under LP Correspondence: (R: Correspondence, 1955-1959), #341.1]
  • Letter from Dr. Robert B. Corey, Caltech, to Dr. E. Ritchie, Dyson Perrins Laboratory, Oxford, England, RE: Sorry to hear of Dr. Hughes' death. Reviewed the manuscript on the evolidine work. Made some minor notations in the chemical portion. Requests that Caltech's x-ray studies on evolidine be published as part of the paper. Lists names to be added to the list of authors and encloses a section to be included entitled, "X-Ray Investigation of Evolidine." Pleased to have the article published in the Australian Journal of Chemistry. Requests 100 reprints for Caltech. Requests that he be kept informed on the progress of this matter. [Filed under LP Correspondence: (C: Individual Correspondence. (Condon - Cornforth)), #67.5]
  • Letter from James A. Rosoff to LP and AHP RE: Enjoying Cal. Inquires about the possibilities of obtaining a summer job in the chemistry department. Wonders if Dr. Marsh will need a computer. The Registrar's office gave him credit for some work he completed in high school so Rosoff is now a low junior. Rosoff's parents have some prints at the house that he will pick up he comes home. They are shots of LP's son and grandsons in Hawaii last summer. [Letter from LP to Rosoff May 25, 1955] [Filed under LP Correspondence: (R: Correspondence, 1955-1959), #341.1]
  • Letter from LP [Signed by Beatrice Wulf] to Dr. Detlev W. Bronk, President, National Academy of Sciences, RE: Asks that Bronk appoint someone else as chairman of the Committee on the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, possibly someone who is a member of the Council so they can be more effective in solving the problems of the Proceedings. [Filed under LP Science: (National Academy of Sciences, 1955-1969), Box #14.021, Folder #21.1]

  • Letter from LP to Ford Drexel RE: Says Drexel's letter arrived while LP was abroad. Agrees that work in molecular structure should be described with the use of many illustrations. In his letter, Drexel mentions LP's association with Dr. S. Goudsmit and other hard-core communists. LP did write a book together with Goudsmit. If Goudsmit, who works for the Atomic Energy Commission, knew about Drexel's statement, he would resent it and perhaps try to take legal action. [Letter from Drexel to LP January 8, 1954] [Filed under LP Correspondence: (D: Correspondence, 1936-1959)), #98.20]
