  The structure of molecules in relation to medical problems

  Dear Professor Pauling,

  Thank you very much for your letter of August 10, in which you agree that the lecture you gave in Lindau be published. I am afraid, however, that you slightly misunderstood my letter of July 16: We would like to print a somewhat revised version of your lecture in ANGEWANDTE CHEMIE, i. e. in its German and International editions.

  In addition to this, Dr. Rotta, the editor of "Naturwissenschaft-liche Rundschau" plans to print a somewhat abridged version of the same manuscript at the same time, making reference to its full publication in ANGEWANDTE CHEMIE.

  I hope that your agreement to have your lecture published in a revised form by ANGEWANDTE CHEMIE remains valid under these circumstances.

  We shall now type the text from the recording tape and send it to you as soon as possible.

• Letter from Evelyn Alloy to AHP, RE: Wanted to acknowledge AHP's card indicating the Paulings' move to Santa Barbara, but her home has been invaded by cabinet workers and carpenters, with all closets having their contents emptied and packed away, and it was impossible to reach paper and a typewriter. Hopes AHP's move went more smoothly than the renovations and redecorating being done at her home. Has been out on voter registration drives and spent a day down the shore during the Democratic Convention. Discusses information she's seen about various groups doing work regarding Vietnam. Despite the fact that she has been urging voters to vote against Goldwater, she is not certain whether she will vote for either presidential candidate. At her age, she is getting tired about the "lesser of two evils" concept, and is bitter about Johnson's activity in Vietnam.
