- Letter from Jerome B. Wiesner, The White House, to LP RE: Informs LP that the American Ambassador was out of the country at the time of the Nobel ceremonies but that the Charge d’Affaires ad interim did attend the presentation ceremonies and the lectures. Since the banquet took place during the period of official mourning for President Kennedy, the Charge had to sent his regrets. Believes that the reason LP was not met at the airport by Embassy staff was that the Nobel Peace Committee had not notified them of his travel plans. Is certain that no one working for the current administration would knowingly want to show anything but pride in LP’s receipt of the Nobel Peace Prize.
