    5 November 1963

    Mr. Curtis G. Benjamin

    Chairman of the Board

    McGraw-Hill Book Company, Inc.

    McGraw-Hill Building

    330 West 42nd Street

    New York 36, New York

    Dear Curtis:

I was pleased to receive your telegram and your letter about the possibility of my writing an autobiography.

I shall, probably, write an autobiography at some time in the future but I have so many other things that I want to do that it seems unlikely that I could get it done during the next couple of years. A biography is under way, by two people who have been working on it for several months.

I shall be away from Pasadena during much of November, and unavailable (writing my Nobel address). I shall, however, be in Pasadena for several days, before and after the fifteenth. I am not sure that it is worthwhile for Mr. Gutwillig to take time to see me, since I could not work on the biography for a long time in the future.

    With best regards, I am

    Sincerely yours,

    Linus Pauling:kpc
