Dear Henry:
I was sorry to learn from your letter to Mr. John Raeburn Green that there is the possibility that you could not come to St. Louis to serve as a character witness in my suit against the St. Louis Globe-Democrat.
I feel strongly that you would be the most effective witness for me, and I am writing to ask if you would consider the following possibility. Could you spend one day, probably best Wednesday 6 November, for this purpose? There is a flight, American Airlines 125, that leaves New York at 9:15 A.M., arriving in St. Louis at 10:40 A.M. You could perhaps be put on the witness stand immediately (that is, about noon), and then could take a return flight to New York, leaving at 3:00 P.M. and arriving at 6:09 P.M. If you did not arrive in time to testify in the morning, you could catch the flight leaving St. Louis at 5:00 P.M. and arriving in New York at 8:30 P.M.
I hesitate to ask you to consider sacrificing this much time and effort for me, but both Mr. Green and I think that it is an important matter.
