  • Letter from LP to Albert Schweitzer, RE: LP and AHP are working hard on the Oslo Conference and, so far, 23 of the 34 people he's asked have agreed to sponsor the event. A few of the sponsors and about 75 other scientists of standing are going to attend the conference. LP is pleased that the Norwegian Nobel Committee has given him permission to hold the conference in the Norwegian Nobel Institute. LP asks if Schweitzer would send a short written statement that could be presented at the conference. LP and AHP wish that Schweitzer could attend, but understand why he cannot. P.S. Five days ago, the Catchpools had a son, Christopher. Adrianna and the baby are doing well, and Dr. Catchpool is getting along well in his research with LP.   • Note from Margaret Kallman to LP, RE: Miss Kallman listened to Norman Thomas speak at a church in Rochester several weeks ago, where copies of LP’s petition were circulating.  She signed one and took another to get more signatures on.  10 of the 27 people who saw it at her school signed it.  Many said “You can’t trust the Russians”.  Kallman asks LP what she should say to things like that, besides “Can you trust the U.S. government?” which would antagonize people rather than make them sympathetic.
