  • Letter from Dr. David T. Smith, School of Medicine, Dept. of Bacteriology, Duke University, to LP RE: LP is correct that the author cannot give permission for published figures to be reproduced. However, Smith's publishers insist that he contact the original author, so as to give the author the opportunity of saying that he no longer approves of his own figure or that he has a better one. Legal permission will be obtained from Endeavor. Requests a letter saying that LP agrees to Smith using the figures if permission is obtained from Endeavor. [Letters from LP to Smith October 25, 1955, November 4, 1955] [Filed under LP Correspondence: (S: Correspondence, 1953-1956), #379.3]
  • Letter from L.H. Cragg and R.P. Graham, Hamilton College, McMaster University, Ontario, to W.H. Freeman, W.H. Freeman and Company, Publishers, RE: Thank Freeman for his letter and for his generous comments on their book. Interested in the possibility that Freeman might publish the book that they are now working on (suitable modified for readers in the U.S.). Do not know what agreements Clarke-Irwin has with other publishers, but will find out as soon as possible. [Filed under LP Correspondence: (W.H. Freeman and Company, 1941-1959), #439.13]
  • Letter from W.H. Freeman, W.H. Freeman and Company, Publishers, to LP RE: Encloses a copy of a review which appeared in Octagon. The review complimented LP's General Chemistry and a book by Cragg and Graham. Read portions of the Cragg and Graham; struck by the authors' ability to make companions of literature and science. Requests LP's opinion of them. Would like to publish Cragg and Graham's new book. [Filed under LP Books: (General Chemistry: An Introduction to Descriptive Chemistry and Modern Chemical Theory, Second Edition), #1953b.4]
  • Letter from W.H. Freeman, W.H. Freeman and Company, Publishers, to LP RE: Sending The Structure of Line Spectra to Stanley Schaefer for an estimate, to see whether it will be possible to keep the book in print. The decision will rest partly on the costs. Wonders what royalty LP has been getting. [Letters from LP to Freeman October 27, 1955, November 4, 1955] [Filed under LP Books: (The Structure of Line Spectra), #1930b.6]
