Circular medal with portrait of Vannevar Bush on obverse and inscription: "Vannevar Bush Award." Reverse side has laurel wreath and inscription: "Science - The endless frontier, awarded by the National Science Board to Linus Pauling, 1989." Framed certificate with gold foil replica of Bush medal affixed at top center. Text reads, in part: "For pioneering with vision, boldness and drive, the exploration and settlement of new frontiers in science, education, and social consciousness."
