    Mr. David Lee Pauling

    2320 Lincoln Street

    Lawton, Oklahoma

    Dear David:

I have been pleased to learn from Mr. Clifford Wood, Principal of the Lawton High School, that you have received a grant from the Sir Alexander Fleming Foundation to study at the University of Oklahoma Medical Research Center this summer, and I am writing to congratulate you.

Also, I am sending to you under separate cover a copy of my book The Nature of the Chemical Bond. This is the third edition which has just appeared, twenty years after the second edition.

I am also sending to your father and mother a copy of my book No More War!. You may want to read it, as well.

I do not know whether or not you and I are related. My grandfather Carl Pauling was born in Missouri. His father had come to the United States from Germany about 120 years ago. There are Paulings in England and in Scandinavia also; it may well be that they are all related.

I should he pleased to learn from you what your plans are for further study.

    Sincerely yours,

    Linus Pauling: jh

    cc: Mr. Clifford Wood
