Dearest Linus,
Thank you for the material. The Daddy suggests that I get the Scott #2503 with the smoky-gray plastic cover which serves as a bit of protection with grand children about.
If you should want to bring your kids to La Jolla we have plenty of room. I can well understand you and their wanting to spend as much time as possible in Hawaii. We did sell all of our cattle except some young ones. We did this because of our decision to come to La Jolla this year.
I do not know what the Daddy told you about my illness but I think he was more frightened than the situation justified. At least they were able to find nothing wrong and my recovery was very rapid. At any rate, I seem perfectly all right now except for being a bit unhappy here in La Jolla. We’ve just had a week at UCLA and have his (the Daddy’s birthday) at Linda’s. Crellie and Lucy came and Stan Schaefer flew down with the Festschrift – a loved volume bound in leather for the presentation copy and the Daddy was completely surprised and happy too. He is sending a copy to you. It is a good book and Stan is proud of it.
You are to have a birthday soon and I send you much love.
You should come here and I would make you a cake.
Hugs and kisses,
AP
I enclose a check.

Dear Peter:
Thanks for your letter, which has reached me only shortly after my birthday. I am glad to have your birthday wishes, and especially glad to see your fine article in the Festschrift. Thanks very much for it. I hope that your work along these lines goes along very well.
I think that the Festschrift is wonderful—-about the best Festschrift that I have ever seen.
Linda and Barclay had a nice birthday party for me: wonderful steak. Mama and I were at UCLA all week, from Sunday to Saturday, except for the evening in Pasadena. Stanley Schaefer came down from San Francisco, bringing the specially bound copy of the Festschrift for presentation to me at the birthday party. Lucy and Crellin were there, also. I gave three lectures on molecular biology at UCLA, and visited all of the departments associated with the Molecular Biology Institute. Mama and I took part in a two-hour panel discussion of social aspects of molecular biology, with members and students in some of the departments, and we also had a joint meeting with students in the student houses one evening. On Saturday we went to UC Irvine, and on Sunday evening I gave a lecture there. Now we are back home, in La Jolla.
By the way, there is a University of San Diego (San Diego State University) , and your letter was sent there. I am in the University of California, San Diego, which is in La Jolla, 92037. A good address is just P. 0. Box 109, La Jolla, California 92037.
I am pleased that you are satisfied with the silver cobalticyanide paper. The mistake that you point out in Figure 2 was not present on the original. I shall ask Mrs. Junkermann to be sure to remind me to remove the comma between College and London.
I have ordered a couple of copies of Jim's book, but they have not yet arrived. I shall send you one when they do arrive.
Much love from,
Daddy
