Dear Mamma,

We look forward to seeing you soon. It will be very pleasant to have you with us.

I have got back home after a summer more or less wasted in terms of getting any of the large amount of stuff done that I want to do. There is mostly a lot of writing to do and I am very slow at it and it is hard for me. Too bad. I shall have to practice and see if I can teach myself how to do it easily. And then when I get tired there is quite a lot to do around the old homestead. I like working on it.

If you get a chance, please bring me two of the following, in the order of desirability, either two the same or different:

1. Grade Mode BT/R $9.95 or BT/R/D $11.95 ceramic stereo pickup
2. Shore M7 N21D stereo pickup $17.95
3. Empire 880P stereo pickup $19.95

Hi Fi stereo pickups. They cost 10 times as much here, and you cannot get the cheap ones. I am still using the GE I brought with me in 1952 and it is not much good. I will pay you for them.

Bring me as a present one of your etchings. You have a good collection and you cannot hang them all. I need some pictures. I like the Signs and Manifestations of Edmondson that you gave me very much.

Julia and the kids have gone to Brighton for four days. They have two days Jewish holiday. It is raining here. I hope it is not in Brighton. I must send them postcards.

Linus may send you a camera to bring me. Don't tell the customs any of it is for me. I asked him to get me an Olympus Pen half frame in Hong Kong where they are cheap. He probably did not get a chance and so it probably will not arrive at you.

It was great fun to see Linus and Linda on this beat. I think Linda looked much better when she left. I think she had a good time.

I have been reading Jim Watson’s book again. He wants me to agree not to sue him. I think it is a very good book, terribly exciting. He has something in common with you: he thinks Pa is god. Perhaps you are growing out of it but Jim isn't. He probably ought to get Pa to agree not so sue him too. He has more experience than I do.
