- Letter from Barry Commoner to LP, RE: Commoner thinks that LP should wait until the current excitement about satellites has quieted before releasing his new announcement. The AAAS has spent much of the year working through the question of fallout and the continuation of testing. Commoner thinks that LP's new announcement will emphasize the common interests of all scientists regardless of nationality in respect to these issues. Commoner is also enclosing two clippings which may interest LP; one is from the Post Dispatch and the other is from Ed's speech to the Physical Society in St. Louis. [Filed under LP Peace: (An Appeal by Scientists to the Governments and People of the World, 1957-1959), Box #5.002, Folder #2.1]

- Letter from LP to Dr. Edwin B. Wilson, RE: Tells Wilson that he is hoping to be able to attend the meetings of the National Academy of Sciences and the American Philosophical Society more regularly, and also serve on the Guggenheim Board. Says that he thinks it is proper for Wilson not to sign the appeal and that for many year LP did the same. Says that he thinks about a third of the members of the National Academy of Sciences will sign it. Explains the research that they are doing regarding mental deficiency. Says that he suggested LP as a possible reviewer of the proposal. Explains why the approach outlined in the manuscript appeals to him. Tells LP that this proposal would fit nicely with the physical science study program at MIT which is rewriting high school physics and the math group at Illinois which is doing the same with high school math.
