Bright Wilson, Jr., Department of Chemistry at Harvard University, to LP, RE: Says that he was interested to read LP's manuscript about barrier to internal rotation and that he is convinced that the probable cause is the interaction of the electrons in the C-H bonds. Explain to LP that he believes that the barrier does not change much when the hydrogens are pushed apart. Informs LP that the conclusion in his paper which stated that methyl germane must have a high barrier was incorrect and that Mr. Laurie discovered the error the previous week. Tells LP that there is also uncertainty in the numbers he published about methyl mercaptan. Explains that Mr. Herschbach and Mr. Krisher have found the equilibrium orientation for propylene. Says that he does not have any comments about LP's paper, but asks LP's permission to show it to Dr. Moffitt and Mr. Howe. Says that he is glad that LP wrote to Martin and that if he can not do the job then they should look for someone else to take his place.
