    14 March 1961

    Dear Crellin,

Mama pointed out to me that we had not yet turned over to you the remaining sum to be paid to you in accordance with Mr. E, W. Crellin's Will.

The original sum was $1,300, endorsed to you by Mr. Crellin on 14 April 1939, as a Christmas present.

Rather, the note was for $1,300.00, dated 14 April 1939, and it was transferred to you on 25 December 1945.

We agreed on an interest rate of four percent from that time, making the value on 25 December 1954 equal to $1,863.29.

Various changes in the balance caused it to become equal to $540.70 on, I judge, 25 December 1955. The sum of $544.70 is given in my letter of 3 October 1956 to you.

I have decided to use six percent interest rate, compounded annually, from that time until 25 March 1961, bringing the total amount due to you to $739.40. My check for this amount is enclosed.

Probably Mama and I shall see you before this letter reaches you.

    Much love from

    [Linus Pauling]
