- Letter from Dr. Louis P. Hammett, Chemistry Dept., Columbia University, to LP RE: Expects to be in the Los Angeles area in December. Hammett and his wife will be visiting their daughter and her family. Would like to see LP and visit the Caltech laboratories. Has been asked by the American Chemical Society Committee on Professional Training to talk with LP about the current revision of the pamphlet on Faculties Publications and Doctoral Theses. If LP does not care to make a definite appointment in advance, Hammett can phone LP when he arrives in Los Angeles. Gives address where he and his wife will be staying. - Letter from Francis O. Schmitt, Biology Dept., MIT, to LP RE: Thanks LP and his staff for their hospitality during the Study Section members' visit. They left with an understanding of Caltech's crystallography investigations, as well as of the needs associated with furnishing the new building. Pleased that LP and his group were able to come to Berkeley to discuss biophysics teaching and research. Compares Caltech's views regarding biophysics to the views of other institutions. - Letter from Mary Agnes Welch to Caltech, RE: Seeks information on radioactive isotopes used in medicine, as she is writing a paper on the subject for high school chemistry. Requests pamphlets or other appropriate literature. [Letter from LP to Welch December 19, 1955] [Filed under LP Correspondence: (W: Correspondence, 1953-1959), #444.3]
- Letter from Professor J.B. Ramsey, Chemistry Dept., University of California, Los Angeles, to LP RE: Thanks LP for commenting on his manuscript. Hopes that he has made the distinction between American and European chemists' definition of electrode potential. From the treatment of this topic in physical chemistry textbooks, it does not seem that this distinction is realized by most. [Letter from LP to Ramsey December 7, 1955] [Filed under LP Correspondence: (R: Correspondence, 1955-1959), #341.1]
- Letter from Professor Kenneth S. Pitzer, Chemistry Dept., University of California, Berkeley, to LP RE: Will try to arrange for a $100 honorarium for each visit. The dates and subjects for LP's lectures seem excellent. Since February 13 is a university holiday, suggests that LP plan to arrive for the second period on February 14. Will work out the schedule of the lectures and send it to LP in time for him to change it if he wishes. Pitzer will be away on leave the second semester and some of the arrangements may be made from now on by Professor Cason. [Letter from LP to Pitzer December 2, 1955] [Filed under LP Speeches: 1956s.3]
