- Letter from Dr. David R. Inglis, Argonne National Laboratory, to LP RE: Recalls the meeting between Jim Raz and Inglis some time ago when they discussed the validity of the spheron-model problem, which required a lot of theoretical work. Also tells about his struggles attempting to use and justify the alpha-particle model throughout the 30s,40s, and early 50s, which he ended up abandoning in favor of the conventional shell-model approach. Continues on to discuss LP's assumption that the localized 1s orbits are hybrids of the shell-model orbits.
