Mr. Jerome Guss
1H5 St. Johns Place
Brooklyn, N. Y. 11213
Dear Mr. Guss:
In answer to your letter, I would say that it might be possible during the next few decades to alter the genes so that children will be born geniuses or be born with other extraordinary qualities.
I think that a small amount of alteration of genes may be achieved during the next few years, such as the introduction of a normal gene to replace a faulty one, thus controlling the disease for which the faulty gene is responsible.
Sincerely,
Linus Pauling
(Signed by Dr. Pauling's
Secretary in his absence)
