    Dear Peter:

    On our return from a three-weeks tour of Latin America, Mama and I were pleased to find your two letters.

    I have sent a check for $140 to Mr. John M. Daniel, as you requested, and have noted that it is a payment on my debt to you for books. It would be useful to me if you would send a statement about the present state of that debt.

    Mama and I are pleased that we could send you the stock. The 300 shares of Parke-Davis corresponds to 100 shares that we purchased on 21 September 1954 at $32 per share, total $3200 - there was a 3/1 split. The Newmont stock came into my possession two or three years ago - I have forgotten the date. Its value then was $600.
