  • Letter from LP to Dr. G. H. Wannier, Bell Telephone Laboratories, RE: Says that the value for the carbon-carbon single bond energy on page 53 of his book is not a misprint. Explains that the discrepancy was caused by LP's use of 170 kcal/mole for the heat of sublimation of graphite before the book was written, and 124.3 for the value when the book was written in 1938. Says that the higher value has recently been shown to be correct, so LP will have to make corrections in the 3rd edition of his book. Schweigart, RE: LP is sorry to say that he can't send Schweigart the names and addresses of the 2,000 scientists who signed the Appeal because that information was no collected. When the scientists signed the Appeal only the city was included. However, some of the signers can be easily identified from reference books and a list of about 200 will be published in the September issue of "Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists." LP thanks Schweigart for the invitation to the convention in Stuttgart, but will not be able to attend.
