Freeman and Company Publishers, to LP, RE: Tells LP that he has heard that LP has agreed to read the manuscript by Christiansen and Garrett and that he should have a copy of it by Monday. Explains that the book is intended for a first year course in chemistry for non-science majors. Discusses the authors and compares the book to Holton's and Krauskpf's books, which he believes are too sophisticated and compartmentalized, respectively. - Memo from Stanley Schaefer to several unknown recipients, RE: Explains that Gordon Christiansen called him that morning to say that he has received a copy of the new book by Bonner and Phillips that was just published by Addison-Wesley and that he finds it is similar to his and Garrett's manuscript. Says that Christiansen pointed out that when the first version of their manuscript was sent to the publishers, Addison-Wesley kept it for more than two months and gave it to Bonner to review it. Says that he does not believe this to be a coincidence. Tells them that they have decided to publish in April and make a careful comparison between the original manuscript and the Bonner and Phillips books to see if legal action need be taken. Says that Christiansen believes that the 2nd revision of their manuscript will make a better book that Bonner and Phillips's. Handwritten note at the bottom by LP says, "I don't think so."
