To all to whom these presents come, greetings: Know ye, that reposing special trust and confidence in the zeal, patriotism, valor and fidelity of Cadet Linus Carl Pauling, I, the professor of military science and tactics, with the approval of the president of Oregon State Agricultural College, by virtue of the power and authority vested in me, do hereby appoint him Cadet Major in the Infantry Unit of the Reserve Officers' Training Corps to rank as such from the seventh day of October A.D. 1921..."
