Certificate with text: "Oregon State Agricultural College Cadets. To all whom these presents come, greetings: Know ye that reposing special trust and confidence in the patriotism, fidelity and abilities of Linus C. Pauling, I hereby appoint him Cadet Corporal of H. Co., Oregon State Agricultural College Cadet Corps, to rank as such from the 20th day of April 1918. He is therefore, carefully and diligently to discharge the duties of Cadet Corporal according to the regulations of the college and military rules and discipline. I charge and require all Cadets under his command to be obedient to his orders. He is to observe and follow such orders and directions as he shall receive from the Commandant of Cadets or superior officers or non-commissioned officers over him, according to the rules and discipline of the Military Department, and this shall be his warrant for so doing. Given by order of the Commandant and approval of the President of the College, at Corvallis, Oregon, this 20th day of April, 1918." Two signatures follow.
