Dear Peter,
We leave Madras tomorrow for Calcutta and the next morning early catch our Pan Am Flight to Hawaii where we’ll stay for a day or two with Linie.
I hope you had a happy birthday. There was a big dinner party for us here on the 10th to which the Consul and Vice Consul (U.S.A) came. And our hosts – the wife of a big big industrialist here asked me to speak after the dinner.
We have had a busy time here and have enjoyed it – at least I have. The Daddy is longing for home.
We’ve kept quite well in spite of our strenuous life.
We’ve been ignored by the Consul –Gen (U.S.) except for the times we’ve met at social affairs* which have been numerous. We have to laugh.
*3 times. We’ve had dinners every night and lunches, etc – even breakfasts.
We’ve met a couple of people who know you – either Cambridge or London. Also we ran into Mrs. Glass? In our hotel in Delhi one day but we didn’t’ see her again.
How is Julia and the children?
It is 9 o’clock and some people have just brought us 2 garlands of flowers plus 2 apples and have taken pictures. The Indian garland is a more impressive affair than the Hawaiian lei. They are really too huge and are always slightly damp. But they smell delicious and look very fine.
The Daddy and I send you much love and hope for many happy birthdays for you.
Hugs and Kisses
