8 April
Dear Petie,
Of course! Get what the children want. I couldn't remember seeing a doll of Sarah’s (although I didn't look really) so thought she would like one. The addition to the train is fine. A doll house is fine too. I’ll save one or two things for it.
We are terribly busy. I have two speeches to give this next week and the Daddy is in Washington. He'll be back tonight.
Our house at Deer Flat progresses slowly. It will be done in two or three months. Unusual rain this year has delayed things.
We're having a great storm right now here in Santa Barbara with snow on the mountains and hail here this morning.
All are coming to the ranch for the Easter week. Linie, Crellie, Linda, and anfarger [?] or is it zugfrarger [?] ?
The wild flowers are absolutely magnificent at the ranch and everywhere. You cannot believe how fine they are. If only all the lovely land was not being filled with cheap ugly houses.
We are frightfully depressed about Vietnam. How can we be doing what we are doing! Johnson is frightful. Why doesn't the rest of the world protest?
Did you know Linie joined the Selma to Montgomery march? We hadn't known anything about it until we read it in the Newspaper.
I don’t know when we’ll come to Europe again – possibly in the summer. We’d love to see you and your house. Perhaps you should come and see us and our two houses that you haven’t seen.
Much love to everyone,
Mama
