Dear Dr. Fust:
I am pleased to have received your letter, in which you ask about Vitamin C.
I enclose a copy of my 1968 paper, Reference 22 is to two papers by Irwin Stone, in which he presents some arguments to support his conclusion that somewhere around three grams per day may be the optimal intake of Vitamin C for many people, with lighter amounts under conditions of stress. I have been taking three grams per day for four years, and feel that my health has been better, especially in that I no longer have bad colds.
Dr. S. Katz was involved in a study in which an increase in IC of students was observed when they increased their intake of ascorbic acid. These students were, however, taking only a small amount, and they were deficient in ascorbic acid when they began.
My associate. Dr. Robinson and I, are working on ascorbic acid and other vitamins, and we have some interesting results about schizophrenia, some of which we hope to publish soon.
Sincerely,
Linus Pauling

Dear Peter,
I enclose a paper from Science, on acetylcholine. You probably have seen it. I haven't read it, but I notice from the Table of References that there is no mention of your work.
Reference No. 2 is to Izzy Edelman, of the University of California Medical School, San Francisco. Mama and I saw him and his wife a week or so ago. He came to a Womens International League reception at San Francisco, at which he spoke. You perhaps remember him from the year that he spent in Pasadena.
Mama is working very hard getting our house in Portola Valley fixed up the way she wants it - it is being repainted, a deck is being built outside of the living room, and some landscaping is being done.
Much love from
Daddy
