I may say that I think that you could get information about the subject in which you are interested by reading a modern text book on genetics or a text book on biology that discusses the problem of genetics. The text book on biology by Garrett Hardin (published by W. H. Freeman & Co.) is a good one.

    The origin of the symbols for female and male is the following:

    The symbol for female is applied to the planet Venus. It represents a mirror.

    The symbol for male is applied to the planet Mars. It represents a shield and spear.
