  • Letter from Dr. G. W. Wheland, Department of Chemistry, University of Chicago to LP RE: Refers to the postcard he sent to LP, says Dr. Fajans is a man with whom it is impossible to have a successful discussion, says he learned that the major point of dispute between them is that Fajans insist their structures of H+Cl- differ in what he calls the “quantum configuration,” says Fajans will not explain what the true configuration should be and so Wheland is stymied. Says that there is no doubt Fajans is very serious and believes in all his own theories, says he feels sorry for the man, and tells how Fajans is reviewing LP's elementary text for the Journal of Physical Chemistry so LP can look forward to a blistering review.
