Reverse has written: "The Royal Society to professor Linus Carl Pauling in accordance with the will of Humphry Davy who devoted the testimonial presented to him by the coalowners of the tyne and wear to the encouragement of chemical research." Certificate reads: "The Davy Medal for the year 1947 has been awarded by the council of The Royal Society to Professor Linus Carl Pauling in recognition of his distinguished contributions to the theory of valency and for their application to systems of biological importance."
