Oregon State Board of Higher Education Records, 1929-2004

Originally called the Oregon State Board of Higher Curricula, this board governed the Oregon University System from 1909 to 1929.  In 1929, the Oregon Legislature passed a law that unified Oregon’s public universities under the Oregon State Board of Higher Education (OSBHE).  The Governor of Oregon appointed 11 board members and these members were confirmed by the Oregon State Senate. This board included two student members appointed for two year terms.

This arrangement remained until 2015 when the OSBHE closed along with the Oregon University System.  At this time, the work was transferred to the Oregon Higher Education Coordinating Commission.  The HECC had been formed in 2011 and was expanded in 2013 when independent boards were established for Oregon State University, University of Oregon, and Portland State University.
