The Extension Family and Community Health Program Records document the educational programs developed and offered by Oregon State Extension faculty and include materials created and assembled by the Program, such as slide/tape presentations with accompanying scripts or user guides, workshop leader guides and participant handouts, newsletters and other publications, and video productions. The collection includes correspondence and subject files, annual reports, county program files, and related materials. The bulk of the materials were generated or assembled by Carolyn Raab, Judith Forest, and Velma Seat, who served as Extension Food and Nutrition Specialists, and document educational programming on food buying, food preservation, meal preparation, and nutrition. Annual reports prepared by Judith Forest, Ruth Klippstein, and Marie Tribble are part of the records. Monthly narrative reports by Bill Broderick and Carol Michael-Bennett in the Morrow County Extension Office are also included. Records of the Oregon Association for Family and Community Education are part of the collection. These include Council meeting minutes and materials, handbooks and newsletters.
The photographs include color slides that are part of assembled slide/tape and slide presentations, mounted images for display, prints affixed to album pages, loose prints, and film negatives. The collection includes more than 4800 photographic items, the bulk of which (approximately 3400) are color slides. Color and b/w prints (approximately 800) and negatives (approximately 650) comprise the remainder. The images depict educational programs on cooking and nutrition, award ceremonies, youth camps and fieldtrips, and table-top displays developed by Extension Family and Community Health faculty and staff. Images of Extension training events, recognition of volunteers, and the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) are also included. Many of the color slides are part of 54 slide presentations on nutrition, food shopping, meal planning, diets, and food preparation.
Audiovisual materials include VHS videotapes (33), DVDs (9) and sound recordings (17 audiocassettes and 1 CD). The videotapes include recordings of food safety teleconferences as well as video productions by the Extension Service on food preservation techniques, nutrition, and biotechnology. The DVDs contain footage of focus group research on fruit and vegetable consumption, exercises for prevention of osteoporosis, Food Hero nutrition consultations, and a guide on feeding children for teen parents. The sound recordings include public service announcements, food safety presentations, the audio portion of slide/tape presentations, and songs about the value of eating breakfast. The compact discs include nutrition education programs; records of Extension program planning and evaluation; and recipe cards in Spanish.
Of special note in the collection is a kit for preparing maraschino cherries that includes detailed instructions as well small amounts of the ingredients used to prepare the cherries.
