Dr. Henry Allen Moe, President
John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation
551 Fifth Avenue
New York, New York
Dear Henry:
I thank you for sending me the copy of your letter to Mrs. Guggenheim containing your resignation as President of the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation.
I congratulate you on your successful career with the Foundation, beginning at the beginning and extending over the intervening period of 39 years, during which you contributed to the formulation of the principles and were most effective in putting them into operation. Also, I want again to thank you for your kindness to me, and to my wife, when, 37 years ago, you gave us valuable advice as we passed through New York on the way to Munich, Copenhagen, and Zurich, where, as a Fellow of the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, I had the opportunity to add to my store of my knowledge and understanding by associating with leading European scientists, as well as other American scientists who were working in Europe.
I am sure that you will find continued happiness in the activities that you mention in your letter to Mrs. Guggenheim, and I wish you further success.
Cordially yours,
Linus Pauling:lh
