- Letter from Joan R. Harris, Secretary to Carol Wong, RE: In reply to Wong's letter of April 11th, Harris is sending some reprints of LP's work. Much of LP's work is described in his book, The Nature of the Chemical Bond, which Wong can probably obtain at the library, so Harris suggests that Wong look into that resource as well. - Letter from L.S. Birks, United States Naval Research Laboratory, to LP, RE: The Naval Research Laboratory's work with the electron probe microanalyzer has led them into investigation of numerous intermetallic phases and compounds. Birks knows that LP's research group has done some work in that area, and wonders if LP might have a graduate student who will soon be receiving a degree and looking for a job. - Letter from LP to David Langworthy, RE: LP feels that it has been shown over the last three years that it is effective for citizens of many different nations to send a petition to the United Nations urging an international agreement to stop the testing of nuclear weapons. LP doesn’t know how well the petition is being circulated in Russia, but several outstanding Russian scientists have signed it. He feels that the United Nations and every nation should be in charge of stopping the spread of nuclear weapons.
