  • Letter from Dr. Orr E. Reynolds, Office of Naval Research, to LP RE: LP's list of proposed speakers for the symposium looks excellent. Leo Shinn has departed for Europe so Reynolds will take over on the symposium now. Dr. Heumann will be leaving the Chemical-Biological Coordination Center soon, so the CBCC cannot be responsible for the detailed arrangements of the symposium. Instead, Reynolds will utilize ONR's contract with the American Institute of Biological Sciences to fund the symposium. Will write letters of invitation to the proposed speakers and will include a list of tentative speakers and topics. After receiving acceptances, requests LP's assistance in grouping the papers into sessions. LP will receive copies of all correspondence regarding the symposium. [Letter from Wulf to Shinn July 25, 1955, Letter from LP to Reynolds July 29, 1955] [Filed under LP Speeches: 1955s.24]

  • Letter from LP to Professor I. Fankuchen, Editor, Acta Crystallographica, Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn, RE: Encloses a manuscript on the Effective Radii of Metal Atoms in Solid Solutions for consideration for publication in Acta Crystallographica. LP and Peter Pauling could have compressed the material, but LP has found that many readers of Acta have misunderstood his earlier publications on metals, perhaps because they were too succinct. Feels that the detailed discussion of this manuscript may have some educational value. [Letter from LP to Fankuchen August 29, 1955] [Filed under LP Manuscripts of Articles: 1955a.4]
