- Letter from Karl Lark-Horovitz to LP telling LP about Dr. W.G. Burgers' visit to Purdue University winter semester. There are notes in pencil in the upper right margin: “David Shoemaker. Do you want Dr. Burgers to speak? LP” “Dr. Pauling: On second thought I am uncertain. Prof. Burgers work as reported at Amsterdam was on crystal growth in the solid state, which is interesting enough, but perhaps does not justify getting him out here. Dave” There is a note in black ink in the lower right margin : “Write Eyring about Kwow” [LP's reply to Burgers November 30, 1949]

- Letter from W.H. Freeman, W.H. Freeman and Co., to LP . RE: Freeman has received permission to sell books in Japan, but notes that payment will be in yen, which may not be changed into dollars at the present time. He says that by selling a limited number of copies in Japan, they risk some returns and will have to forego royalty payment until such time as they can receive returns in US dollars.
