Dean P. W. Hinrichs, Jr.
California Institute
Dear Dean Hinrichs:
So far as I am aware, Mr. Carol K Ikeda, a graduate student doing special work in chemistry, is a loyal American. The work which he is doing at the Institute is in the field of immunochemistry, under a grant made to the Institute in response to an application from me. Mr. Ikeda has been carrying on his work extremely well and faithfully. He is appearing as a co-author with Drs. Campbell and Pressman and me of some papers which will be published soon.
Although I know of nothing which would reflect unfavorably on Mr. Ikeda's loyalty, I feel that I do not know him well enough myself to stand as sponsor for him. I have asked Dr. David Pressman, in whom I have complete confidence, to write a statement about Mr. Ikeda, which is enclosed. Dr. Pressman has been in close touch with Mr. Ikeda during the past year.
I shall be glad to cooperate with you in any way you desire in this matter.
Sincerely yours,
Linus Pauling
