Dear Lynn:
Your letter has waited a month for answering, because of various demands on my time. I have no special desires regarding books, other than the usual crystal structure books including Strukturberichte 1, 2, and 3. My lectures probably will not require the use of many crystal models. I should, however, be glad to have on my desk a 20-inch slide rule, and I should also like very much to have available for the exclusive use of Jack Sherman, who will probably come with me, an electric calculating machine, preferably either a new automatic Marchand or Monroe. Your department might well consider this expenditure of around six hundred dollars unjustified, however, and we would be satisfied if a machine were available for us part of the time.
The Crellin Laboratory is similar to Gates and is located on the west side of the library unit. It will have five stories, three as in Gates, and a third floor in place of attic and a sub-basement. Concrete has been poured up to the floor of the first floor. A biology building and two geology buildings, completing the borders of the planned reflecting pool, are also being built.
We have a new baby boy, born on June 4. So far he has not been named.
Sincerely yours,
Linus Pauling
