The collection includes course handouts, assignments, dance cards, a freshman handbook (rook guide), homecoming game buttons, nametags, a sticker, ticket stubs, a patch, lab manuals, line drawings, a workbook and exams. Among the courses represented in this collection are: fluid mechanics, statistics, mechanical analysis and design, theory of structures and chemistry.
An addition to the VanDevender Papers (Accession 2008:028) is made up of certificates, correspondence, employment records, newspaper clippings, photographs, publications, research project reports, scrapbooks, student papers and exams, textbooks, and jacket letters for sports played in grade school/high school. Documenting Van Devender's career as an engineer with the Boeing Company, these materials also reflect his student experience at OSU, Stanford University, and the University of Washington. School work and scrapbooks from Van Devender's grade and secondary school years in Noti, Oregon, were also found in this transfer. Materials related to OSU include items associated with Heckart Lodge and the Thanes Club. The correspondence includes letters from mother, friends from Noti, and fellow OSU buddies. The five scrapbooks reflect various eras from Van Devender's life from grade school to graduate studies at Stanford and contain greeting cards, newspaper clippings, correspondence, photographs, publications, report cards, and schoolwork.
