A. Grace Johnson Collection, 1918-1933

A. Grace Johnson joined the faculty of Oregon Agricultural College as an Instructor of Domestic Science in 1915. In 1918, she was promoted to Professor and Head of the Department of Household Administration, a position she held until 1931. During the 1931-1932 academic year, she served as Acting Dean of the School of Home Economics while Dean Ava Milam was on sabbatical leave. Johnson was a pioneer in home management house work and supervised the home economics students who lived in the College's home management houses. She was also an expert on individual and family budgeting and account keeping.

Alma Grace Johnson was born January 9, 1878 in Indiana. She attended Purdue University for one year and then completed her BS at Columbia University in 1915. She returned to Columbia to complete her MA in 1926. Johnson died suddenly on April 12, 1933 in Salt Lake City where she was visiting friends; she had been on sabbatical leave during the 1932-1933 academic year.
