Paul G. Risser assumed the presidency of OSU in January 1996 after serving three years as President of Miami University in Ohio. In addition to his work in university administration, Risser also taught university level botany before coming to OSU. As President, Risser emphasized the need for increased marketing and student recruitment and retention at OSU. Risser left OSU in January 2003 for a position as Chancellor of the Oklahoma State System of Higher Education.
Established in 1998 by Executive Order 98-18 on the recommendation of the Willamette River Basin Task Force, the Willamette Restoration Initiative (WRI) is a public/private partnership designed to promote, integrate, and coordinate efforts to protect and restore the heath of the Willamette watershed. Risser served as chair of WRI.
