Scope and Content Note
The Pride Center Records consist of materials created and assembled by the Pride Center and include brochures, flyers, meeting minutes, newsletters, newspaper clippings, notes, photographs, posters, ticket stubs, and a DVD. The collection includes records of Advisory Boards for the Queer Resource Center and the Pride Center and documents the establishment of the Queer Resource Center and Pride Center building expansion plans. Publicity for Queer Pride Week events as well as information about OSU research on the sexual orientation of sheep and a proposed gender inclusive housing program are included. A 1993 guide to safe zones for the gay, lesbian, and bisexual community in Corvallis prepared by the OSU Office of Affirmative Action is part of the collection.
The photographs depict the Pride Center and Queer Resource Center offices, Lavender Graduation ceremonies, and an informational table in the Memorial Union quadrangle for the Circle of Friends organization. Most of the images are color prints and negatives; a few of the images are b/w prints.
The DVD is a recording of the 2007 Lavender Graduation ceremony.
An addition to the Pride Center Records (Accession 2009:091) consists of materials collected and generated by staff and students at the OSU Pride Center and includes correspondence, flyers, notes, a manual, and program evaluations. Much of this transfer reflects resource center coordinator and staff training and is made up of notes, procedural statements, training handouts, information about various campus services, and a manual. This accession also includes a packet of information compiled by students and sent to several Student Affairs administrators on campus. Entitled "Improving Support Services for LGBTQQIA Students at OSU," this packet includes personal experience statements, position descriptions, results of the Queer Student Summit, and a program proposal for the establishment of the Queer Resource Center. Other materials found in this transfer include correspondence and guidelines for the Pride Center Advisory Board.
A second addition to the Pride Center Records (Accession 2010:048) consists of a documentary film on DVD produced by alumni Philip Mason and directed by Sam Lienen about the creation of the Queer Resource Center (QRC) at OSU (now the Pride Center). Running 34 minutes, the film contains recollections from various OSU alumni and faculty involved in the founding of the QRC, including Christian Matheis, Ellen Wygant (Dishman), Robin Ryan, Linda Paschke, Melanie Spraggins, and Larry Roper. The DVD also includes footage of the 2001 ASOSU Student Fees Committee hearing on funding for the Queer Resource Center.
A third addition to the Pride Center Records (Accession 2011:054) consists of materials documenting the OSU Pride Center and is made up of film footage, flyers, newspaper clippings, photographs, a poster, publications, a staff manual, and ticket stubs. These items primarily reflect events organized by Pride Center students and staff such as the Lavender Graduation ceremony, Queer Pride Week activities, and a "Drag Bingo" fundraiser for a LGBTQ student scholarship fund in honor of LGBT Services and Outreach Director Steven Leider. One of the publications is a LGBT Services Resource Guide. Housed on two cds, the film and photos relate to the 2005 Lavender Graduation Ceremony and events from the 2005 Queer Pride Week, respectively.
A fourth addition to this collection (Accession 2013:081) contains materials generated and collected by the OSU Pride Center and is made up of certificates, evaluations, event brochures, flyers, forms, manuals, meeting minutes, newsletters, newspaper clippings, notes, office logs/desk calendar pages, photographs, posters, reports, and stickers. About two-thirds of this transfer is made up of printed matter from mostly non-OSU sources collected by the Center for reference and distribution. Organized by subject, these files address topics such as LGBT student groups at other universities, mental health, practicing safe sex, scholarships for LGBT students, same-sex marriage, bisexuality, transgender identities, allies, and potential speakers/performers for events. Among the published matter found in these files is an oversized document in braille. The other materials document event planning, meetings of the Queer Resource Center Advisory Board, the Pride Center building, guidelines for a Queer Resource Center coordinator search, and a self-assessment report of OSU LGBT programs. Information recorded on the office logs and desk calendar pages include visitors to the Center, calls/e-mails received, and events organized by the Pride Center. The two prints depict a group of unidentified students.
