Linus Pauling note to self concerning biological specificity. May 16, 1952Pauling writes that Max Delbrück has been telling him about experiments being done in the Caltech Biology Division that demonstrate genetic crossing-over. In response, Pauling notes that he suggested to Delbrück that a possible explanation for this genetic crossing-over is that these gene families are translated into intermediates that cannot diffuse without destruction occuring from one chromosome to another prior to assembly of the end product. This hypothesis was found to be correct, as verified by Edward B. Lewis. View Transcript
