  • "The second paper, "Eigenfunctions for Chemical Bonds," contains the first hybridization calculations made in detail. These calculations were made, I believe, in December, 1930, in the library at 1745 Arden Road. The results were published in the first paper of the Chemical Bond, JACS 53, 1367 (1931), mailed to the editor about February 15, 1931, and published April 6, 1931. This treatment of hybridized bond orbitals has found wide application." [Signed Linus Pauling, December 31, 1950] [Filed under LP Science Box 3.002, Folder 2]
