Saturday
Dear Peter,
I guess this on-again off-again trip is on again, this time for good. Mama telephoned the other night, and said that we were invited, but that they had been too busy to write. Lucy has also been successful in arranging for some friends of ours to stay here with the kids for a couple of weeks, so I guess we're all set. We will fly via SAS to Copenhagen, and thence to Oslo, on (I think ) the same plane as the parents. We will return via London, leaving London on 21 Dec. I don't know what the plans are, or when we will leave Oslo. I haven't made reservations for the Oslo-London portion of the trip. We might stop in Copenhagen for a couple of days; I do not know.
I will bring the bicycle coaster brake along, rather than mailing it. Also your shirt and towel, unless (as is pretty likely) I forget them.
By the way, the SAS flight 936, which arrives in Copenhagen at 8:10 AM on 8 Dec. The connecting flight to Oslo is SAS 452.
Otherwise, all is much the same. My work continues, much to my amazement, to go well, and I should at least get a rough draft of a ms done by the time we leave. It is a good feeling. Dale Kaiser, with whom I would like to do a post-doc at Stanford, is taking next year off, but says that I might spend the following year with him. Very nice, but doesn't solve the problem of next year. There is another fellow at Stanford, though, named Phil Hanawalt, with whom I might spend next year. I must write him this afternoon.
Do you ever see David Wilkie? You might let him know I will be there, and would like to see him, unless he has gone off for the holidays. I don't know what it is like there the week before Christmas, but perhaps I might give an informal seminar, if such exist in old blighty. I will probably come armed with a few lantern slides, just in case.
If you want anything I will gladly bring it, as long as it is not a) too expensive or b) too heavy.
Much love -
Crellin
Mama said that she will advance you the money for the Merc. I will be in Pasadena for only about 12 hours, but I can probably try to get Al Jacobsen on the stick.
