Dear Dr. Schweitzer:
As I mentioned in my last letter, my book "No More War!" is to be published in August by Dodd, Mead and Company, a good American book publisher. It will also be published in England.
The publishers would like to have some statements about the book and the author printed on the jacket of the book. They have asked me if you might be willing to make a statement - just a few words - that could be used in this way. The statement would not be included in the book itself, but only on the paper jacket that is wrapped around the book.
I have looked over your letters in order to see whether some sentence in one of your letters might not be suitable. I have not found one, but I suggest that you might be willing to write a sentence reading in somewhat the following way:
"By his efforts to prevent nuclear war and to bring the powerful forces of nuclear energy under international control, Professor Linus Pauling is rendering a great service to humanity."
Any statement such as this one that you would be willing to write and allow me to use would be of much value to me. I shall, of course, understand, in case that you decide that you should not deviate from your policy of writing such statements.
With best regards, I am
Sincerely yours,
Linus Pauling:w
